To Be Read Aloud To The Class
Write something original and print it off for me to read to the class aloud. When I read the set of class papers, I won't say who wrote what. You may tell the class it's yours if you want, but I won't. This assignment is very open ended: It can be on any topic and any kind of writing, including but not limited to poems, stories, letters, opinions, reviews, lyrics, articles, journals, free-writes, personal experiences, etc. We're going for variety here. The writing need only be long enough to show some thought and be of some interest to others in the class. Since it will take a while to read all these, it will work better if these aren't too long. These will basically be graded as done or not done, though there will be a small point differential between the really good efforts and the really poor efforts. On this assignment, there will be no deductions for errors in grammar, spelling, etc. When I read the papers aloud, I will first ask if there is any one who would prefer to read their own paper rather than having me read it. It is good for you to hear your work read in someone else's voice (in this case, mine) and to be free to pay attention to how others are reacting to your writing, but the tradeoff is that I may not read your paper as effectively as you would read it yourself, since you know where you want the emphasis on certain words, the tone of voice, etc. Besides reading these papers aloud, i will select some of them to post online.
