Research Paper Assignment

or, more precisely

Brief Eccentric Research Paper And Impeccable References (B.E.R.P -- A.I.R)

You have probably done a research paper before, but this will be a little different. That’s the “Eccentric” part. This one will focus more on format than content. It is OK to pick a weird, narrow topic, and you don’t have to make a point, have a thesis, present two sides, etc. Have fun with the content, and it only needs to be long enough to meet the other requirements. It can probably even be shorter than my Nude Rock sample. The sample, however, is in the format yours should be in -- exactly.

Graded requirements:

It must be proofread (not just spell checked)

It must have a heading and be spaced and indented like the sample.

It must have at least 3 separate sources. These must each have at least one paranthetical reference (the part in parenthesis in the body of the Nude Rock sample) and must be listed in a Works Cited list (like the one at the end of the Nude Rock sample.) Both the parenthetical references and the Works Cited list must adhere to the M.L.A. Style requirements impeccably -- that means perfect (like the ones in the Nude Rock sample).

It must read smoothly, with at least some kind of logical transition between the information from the three sources.

Open-ended assignment on literature

Students in classes where literature is studied are regularly asked to do an "open-ended" assignment on a piece of literature we have read as a class. This is usually in conjunction with a more traditional assignment, like an objective quiz, over the same piece of literature. This accommodates multiple learning styles and allows students to work at a level appropriate to their personal educational needs. If we are reading a longer work of literature, students are sometimes able to combine several of these assignments into single more in depth effort.
